Haynes 25 / L605
Haynes 25, also known as L605, is a cobalt-nickel-chromium-tungsten high-temperature alloy known for its excellent elevated-temperature strength, oxidation resistance, wear resistance, and good fatigue performance. It retains useful mechanical properties at high temperatures, making it suitable for critical aerospace, gas-turbine, and industrial components.
Appearance & Properties
Color: Silver-gray to bright silver-gray
Density: Approx. 9.1 g/cm³
Tensile Strength: Typically approx. 900–1,100 MPa at room temperature, depending on material condition
High-Temperature Performance: Excellent
Oxidation Resistance: Excellent
Corrosion Resistance: Good
Machinability: Difficult
Wear Resistance: Good
Fatigue Resistance: Good
Magnetism: Generally essentially non-magnetic
Surface Finishes: Blasting, polishing, grinding, PVD coating, etc.
Typical Applications
Haynes 25 / L605 is widely used in aerospace, gas turbines, energy, medical devices, and high-temperature industrial equipment.
Typical parts include aircraft-engine hot-section components, combustion-system parts, turbine seals, bearing races, springs, high-temperature fasteners, and heat-resistant precision CNC parts.
Advantages
• Excellent high-temperature strength
• Good oxidation and corrosion resistance
• Good wear and fatigue resistance
• Maintains useful mechanical stability at elevated temperatures
• Suitable for critical high-temperature, high-load components
Limitations
• Very difficult to CNC machine
• Strong tendency to work harden
• High cutting-tool wear and relatively low machining efficiency
• High material and machining costs
