C280 Brass
C280, also known as Muntz Metal, is a high-zinc brass typically containing approximately 60% copper and 40% zinc. It offers good strength, formability, and corrosion resistance while remaining relatively economical, making it suitable for industrial structures, hardware, and medium-strength brass components.
Appearance & Properties
Color: Golden yellow to brass yellow
Density: Approx. 8.4 g/cm³
Tensile Strength: Approx. 380–500 MPa (depending on material condition)
Corrosion Resistance: Good
Machinability: Moderate
Formability: Good
Strength: Good
Electrical Conductivity: Moderate
Magnetism: Non-magnetic
Surface Finishes: Polishing, nickel plating, chrome plating, tin plating, etc.
Typical Applications
C280 Brass is widely used in industrial equipment, architectural hardware, automotive, marine, electrical equipment, and general machinery.
Typical parts include brackets, connectors, fasteners, valve components, decorative parts, mechanical hardware, and various CNC machined components.
Advantages
• Good strength and formability
• Good corrosion resistance
• Attractive appearance and good polishability
• Relatively economical
• Suitable for general industrial and structural brass components
Limitations
• Lower CNC machinability than C360
• Lower electrical conductivity than higher-copper brass grades
• Not ideal for high-strength or high-wear components
• Dezincification should be considered in certain corrosive environments
