Grade 9 Titanium
Grade 9 (Ti-3Al-2.5V) is a medium-strength alpha-beta titanium alloy containing approximately 3% aluminum and 2.5% vanadium. It provides higher strength than commercially pure Grade 2 titanium while offering better formability than Grade 5, providing a good balance of lightweight performance, corrosion resistance, and mechanical strength.
Appearance & Properties
Color: Silver-gray to silvery white
Density: Approx. 4.48 g/cm³
Tensile Strength: Typically around 620 MPa or higher, depending on product form and condition
Corrosion Resistance: Excellent
Machinability: Moderate to difficult
Strength-to-Weight Ratio: Excellent
Formability: Good
Fatigue Resistance: Good
Magnetism: Essentially non-magnetic
Surface Finishes: Blasting, polishing, anodizing, passivation, PVD coating, etc.
Typical Applications
Grade 9 Titanium is widely used in aerospace, drones, automotive and motorsports, bicycles, medical equipment, sporting goods, and high-performance industrial equipment.
Typical parts include aerospace hydraulic tubing components, drone structures, lightweight brackets, tube fittings, bicycle components, fasteners, shafts, and precision CNC parts.
Advantages
• Good strength-to-weight ratio
• Higher strength than Grade 2 titanium
• Better formability than Grade 5
• Excellent corrosion resistance
• Suitable for lightweight, medium-to-high-strength components
Limitations
• Lower strength than Grade 5
• More difficult to CNC machine than aluminum and conventional steels
• Low thermal conductivity requires careful control of cutting heat
• Relatively high material and machining costs
