Anti-Static Acrylic

Anti-static acrylic is a PMMA-based material with electrostatic-dissipative properties, usually achieved through a functional surface coating or bulk modification. It helps reduce static buildup, dust attraction, and electrostatic-discharge risks, making it suitable for electronics, semiconductor, and clean-production environments.

Appearance & Properties

Color: Usually colorless and transparent; slight blue, gray, or other tints may be available

Density: Approx. 1.18–1.22 g/cm³

Tensile Strength: Typically approx. 55–75 MPa

Surface Resistance: Commonly approximately 10⁶–10⁹ Ω, depending on grade

Light Transmission: Typically approximately 85%–92%, depending on substrate and treatment

Weather Resistance: Fair to good

Chemical Resistance: Fair to good

Machinability: Good, but functional coatings must be protected

Bondability: Depends on the coating and bonding area

Surface Finishes: Precision cutting, edge polishing, drilling, screen printing, and localized bonding

Typical Applications

Anti-static acrylic is widely used in semiconductor equipment, electronics manufacturing, cleanrooms, automation systems, precision instruments, and medical electronic equipment.

Typical parts include static-dissipative machine guards, cleanroom partitions, electronic assembly covers, PCB inspection fixtures, equipment windows, instrument panels, and sensitive-component protective covers.

Advantages

• Reduces static buildup and electrostatic-discharge risks

• Minimizes the attraction of dust and fine particles

• Retains good transparency and visibility

• Lightweight and easy to machine and install

• Suitable for electronics manufacturing and clean-production environments

Limitations

• Surface-coated grades may lose performance if scratched or heavily polished

• Machined edges may not retain anti-static properties

• Performance may be affected by humidity, cleaning agents, and service time

• More expensive than standard clear acrylic

• Does not replace grounding or a complete ESD-control system
