8620 Alloy Steel
8620 is a low-carbon nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy steel known for its excellent carburizing capability, toughness, and wear resistance. After carburizing and heat treatment, it develops a hard, wear-resistant surface while maintaining a tough core, making it ideal for precision mechanical components requiring both surface durability and impact resistance.
Appearance & Properties
Color: Silver-gray to dark gray
Density: Approx. 7.85 g/cm³
Tensile Strength: Approx. 530–800 MPa (depending on material and heat-treatment condition)
Corrosion Resistance: Poor
Machinability: Good
Weldability: Good
Toughness: Good
Wear Resistance: Excellent after carburizing
Magnetism: Magnetic
Heat Treatment: Suitable for carburizing, hardening, tempering, etc.
Surface Treatments: Carburizing, black oxide, phosphating, zinc plating, nickel plating, etc.
Typical Applications
8620 Alloy Steel is widely used in automotive, aerospace, industrial machinery, agricultural equipment, construction machinery, and power transmission systems.
Typical parts include gears, ring gears, drive shafts, camshafts, pins, bushings, sprockets, splined shafts, and wear-resistant precision CNC components.
Advantages
• Excellent carburizing and case-hardening capability
• High surface hardness and wear resistance after carburizing
• Tough and impact-resistant core
• Good machinability before heat treatment
• Particularly suitable for gears and transmission components
Limitations
• Poor corrosion resistance and usually requires surface protection
• Usually requires carburizing to achieve its key performance advantages
• Heat treatment may cause dimensional distortion
• CNC machining becomes significantly more difficult after hardening
