C544 Phosphor Bronze
C544 is a free-machining phosphor bronze designed to provide significantly better machinability than conventional phosphor bronze while retaining good strength, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and fatigue performance. Compared with C510, C544 is better suited for CNC turning, drilling, and threading, particularly in high-volume precision component production.
Appearance & Properties
Color: Reddish-brown to golden-brown
Density: Approx. 8.9 g/cm³
Tensile Strength: Approx. 350–550 MPa (depending on material condition)
Corrosion Resistance: Good
Machinability: Excellent
Wear Resistance: Good
Fatigue Resistance: Good
Electrical Conductivity: Moderate to low
Magnetism: Non-magnetic
Surface Finishes: Polishing, nickel plating, tin plating, silver plating, etc.
Typical Applications
C544 Phosphor Bronze is widely used in automotive, electrical and electronics, instrumentation, industrial machinery, telecommunications, and precision hardware.
Typical parts include bushings, sleeves, connectors, terminals, threaded components, nuts, washers, gears, instrument components, and high-volume CNC turned parts.
Advantages
• Excellent CNC machinability
• Good wear and corrosion resistance
• Good strength and fatigue performance
• Good chip-breaking characteristics for volume production
• Better suited for complex turned components than conventional phosphor bronze
Limitations
• Lower electrical conductivity than pure copper and some conventional phosphor bronzes
• Lower strength than some high-strength copper alloys
• Generally more expensive than conventional brass
• Contains lead, so regulatory requirements should be verified for food-contact, drinking-water, and restricted-substance applications
