HPb59-1 Brass
HPb59-1 is a widely used free-cutting leaded brass consisting primarily of copper, zinc, and approximately 0.8%–1.9% lead. The lead addition significantly improves machinability and chip breaking, making it particularly suitable for CNC turning, drilling, threading, and high-volume production of precision components.
Appearance & Properties
Color: Golden yellow to brass yellow
Density: Approx. 8.5 g/cm³
Tensile Strength: Approx. 370–550 MPa, depending on product form and temper
Corrosion Resistance: Good
Machinability: Excellent
Formability: Good, particularly for hot working
Electrical Conductivity: Moderate
Magnetism: Non-magnetic
Surface Finishes: Polishing, nickel plating, chrome plating, tin plating, etc.
Typical Applications
HPb59-1 Brass is widely used in automotive, industrial equipment, pumps and valves, instrumentation, hardware, and fluid-control systems.
Typical parts include valve components, pipe fittings, bolts, nuts, screws, bushings, nozzles, connectors, and various high-volume CNC turned components.
Advantages
• Excellent CNC machinability and chip breaking
• Suitable for high-speed turning and volume production
• Good machined surface quality and dimensional accuracy
• Good combination of mechanical properties and corrosion resistance
• Particularly suitable for valves, fittings, and threaded components
Limitations
• Contains lead and may not be suitable for certain food-contact, drinking-water, or restricted-substance applications
• Lower strength than high-strength copper alloys and steels
• Relatively limited cold-forming capability
• Dezincification and stress-corrosion risks should be considered in certain environments
