Zamak 2
Zamak 2 is one of the strongest and hardest alloys in the Zamak family, consisting primarily of zinc with aluminum, copper, and magnesium. Compared with Zamak 3 and Zamak 5, it provides higher strength, hardness, and wear resistance while maintaining excellent die-casting characteristics.
Appearance & Properties
Color: Silver-gray to bright silver-gray
Density: Approx. 6.8 g/cm³
Tensile Strength: Approx. 350–400 MPa, depending on condition and manufacturing process
Hardness: Relatively High
Wear Resistance: Good
Corrosion Resistance: Moderate to Good
Machinability: Good
Die Castability: Excellent
Magnetism: Non-magnetic
Surface Finishes: Polishing, electroplating, painting, powder coating, passivation, etc.
Typical Applications
Zamak 2 is widely used in automotive, electrical and electronics, hardware, home appliances, locks, industrial equipment, and consumer products.
Typical parts include gears, lock components, mechanical housings, connectors, handles, brackets, decorative components, and precision die-cast parts.
Advantages
• High strength and hardness within the Zamak family
• Good wear resistance
• Excellent die-casting and dimensional capabilities
• Suitable for complex and thin-wall precision components
• Wide range of surface-finishing options
Limitations
• Relatively high density for lightweight applications
• Limited mechanical performance at sustained high temperatures
• Lower corrosion resistance than materials such as stainless steel
• Long-term dimensional stability and aging behavior should be considered
