Aluminum 7075
Aluminum 7075 is a high-strength aluminum alloy with zinc as its primary alloying element. It offers an excellent strength-to-weight ratio and good machinability, making it widely used for aerospace and high-performance mechanical components. Compared with 6061, 6063, and 6082, 7075 provides significantly higher strength for precision CNC parts requiring lightweight construction and high load capacity.
Appearance & Properties
Color: Silver-white to silver-gray
Density: Approx. 2.81 g/cm³
Tensile Strength: Approx. 500–570 MPa (common T6/T651 tempers)
Corrosion Resistance: Moderate
Machinability: Good
Weldability: Poor
Surface Finishes: Anodizing, hard anodizing, bead blasting, polishing, painting, etc.
Typical Applications
Aluminum 7075 is widely used in aerospace, UAVs, robotics, high-performance automotive systems, precision machinery, and high-strength industrial equipment.
Typical parts include aerospace structures, UAV frames, robotic components, high-strength brackets, connectors, gears and shafts, precision fixtures, and high-load CNC structural components.
Advantages
• High strength and hardness
• Excellent strength-to-weight ratio
• Good CNC machinability
• Suitable for high-load lightweight structures
• Good dimensional stability for precision machining
Limitations
• Lower corrosion resistance than 6000-series alloys such as 6061
• Poor weldability
• Generally more expensive than 6000-series aluminum
• Certain tempers require consideration of stress-corrosion cracking
