Aluminum 6061
Aluminum 6061 is one of the most widely used aluminum alloys for CNC machining. As a heat-treatable Al-Mg-Si alloy, it provides a good balance of strength, low weight, corrosion resistance, machinability, and cost.
Appearance & Properties
Color: Silver-white to silver-gray
Density: Approx. 2.70 g/cm³
Tensile Strength: Approx. 260–310 MPa (T6/T651)
Corrosion Resistance: Good
Machinability: Good
Weldability: Good
Surface Finishes: Anodizing, bead blasting, brushing, polishing, powder coating, etc.
Typical Applications
Aluminum 6061 is widely used in automation, automotive, aerospace, robotics, electronics, and semiconductor equipment.
Typical CNC parts include brackets, mounting plates, fixtures, connectors, motor mounts, housings, heat-dissipation components, UAV structural parts, and other precision machined components.
Advantages
• Lightweight with a good strength-to-weight ratio
• Good CNC machinability
• Good corrosion resistance and weldability
• Suitable for anodizing and various surface finishes
• Widely available and cost-effective
Limitations
• Lower strength than high-strength alloys such as 7075 and 7050
• Not ideal for prolonged high-temperature or extremely high-load applications
• Not the first choice when maximum structural strength is required
