Grade 23 Titanium
Grade 23 (Ti-6Al-4V ELI) is an extra-low-interstitial version of Grade 5 titanium, with tighter limits on elements such as oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon. This provides improved fracture toughness, ductility, and fatigue performance, making it widely used for medical implants and high-reliability aerospace components.
Appearance & Properties
Color: Silver-gray to silvery white
Density: Approx. 4.43 g/cm³
Tensile Strength: Typically around 860 MPa or higher, depending on specification and condition
Corrosion Resistance: Excellent
Machinability: Difficult
Strength-to-Weight Ratio: Excellent
Biocompatibility: Excellent
Fatigue Resistance: Excellent
Magnetism: Essentially non-magnetic
Surface Finishes: Blasting, polishing, anodizing, passivation, PVD coating, etc.
Typical Applications
Grade 23 Titanium is widely used in medical devices, orthopedic implants, dental applications, aerospace, and high-reliability precision equipment.
Typical parts include orthopedic implants, bone plates, bone screws, dental implant components, medical-device parts, aerospace structures, and high-reliability precision CNC components.
Advantages
• Excellent strength-to-weight ratio
• Good fracture toughness and fatigue performance
• Excellent corrosion resistance
• Good biocompatibility
• Particularly suitable for medical implants and high-reliability applications
Limitations
• Difficult to CNC machine
• Generally more expensive than standard Grade 5
• Low thermal conductivity increases thermal load on cutting tools
• Medical implant applications require compliance with applicable material, manufacturing, and quality-system requirements
