Extruded Acrylic
Extruded acrylic is manufactured by melting PMMA pellets and continuously extruding the material through a die. It offers consistent thickness, good dimensional uniformity, high production efficiency, and relatively low cost, making it suitable for panels, partitions, signage, and high-volume parts with relatively simple geometries.
Appearance & Properties
Color: Colorless and transparent; also available in colored, opal, frosted, and opaque forms
Density: Approx. 1.18–1.20 g/cm³
Tensile Strength: Approx. 60–75 MPa
Light Transmission: Typically approximately 90%–92% for clear sheet
Weather Resistance: Good
Chemical Resistance: Fair to good
Machinability: Fair to good
Bondability: Good
Surface Finishes: Mechanical polishing, flame polishing, screen printing, painting, film lamination, laser engraving, etc.
Typical Applications
Extruded acrylic is widely used in industrial panels, electronic equipment, smart-home products, lighting, signage, retail displays, and architectural decoration.
Typical parts include control panels, display windows, equipment partitions, thin machine guards, signs, light covers, display panels, electronic enclosures, and simple high-volume machined components.
Advantages
• Uniform thickness and good dimensional consistency
• High material utilization and production efficiency
• Easy to thermoform, bond, and process in volume
• Flat surface suitable for panel-type components
• Widely available and relatively cost-effective
Limitations
• Generally has higher internal stress than cast acrylic
• More likely to soften or stick to tools during CNC machining
• Drilled holes, threads, and sharp corners may be susceptible to cracking
• Not ideal for deep cavities or heavy material removal
• Chemical resistance and long-term load capability are generally lower than cast acrylic
