ZA-8 Zinc-Aluminum Alloy
ZA-8 is a zinc-aluminum alloy containing approximately 8% aluminum. Compared with common Zamak alloys, it provides higher strength, hardness, wear resistance, and load-bearing capability while maintaining good casting and machining characteristics.
Appearance & Properties
Color: Silver-gray to bright silver-gray
Density: Approx. 6.3 g/cm³
Tensile Strength: Approx. 370 MPa, depending on condition and manufacturing process
Corrosion Resistance: Good
Machinability: Good
Castability: Excellent
Wear Resistance: Good
Strength: Relatively High
Magnetism: Non-magnetic
Surface Finishes: Polishing, electroplating, painting, powder coating, passivation, etc.
Typical Applications
ZA-8 is widely used in automotive, industrial machinery, electrical and electronics, hardware, home appliances, and power transmission equipment.
Typical parts include gears, bearing housings, brackets, mechanical housings, connectors, handles, pulleys, and various precision cast and CNC-machined components.
Advantages
• Higher strength and hardness than common Zamak alloys
• Good wear resistance and load-bearing capability
• Good machinability
• Suitable for complex, dimensionally accurate components
• Good overall mechanical performance
Limitations
• Relatively high density for lightweight applications
• Not suitable for prolonged high-temperature service
• Generally more expensive than common Zamak alloys
• Higher aluminum content limits the use of some conventional hot-chamber die-casting processes
