Aluminum 6063
Aluminum 6063 is a commonly used heat-treatable Al-Mg-Si alloy known for its good corrosion resistance, formability, and excellent surface finishing characteristics. Compared with 6061, 6063 has lower strength but can generally achieve a more uniform and attractive anodized finish, making it particularly suitable for lightweight components where appearance is important.
Appearance & Properties
Color: Silver-white to bright silver-gray
Density: Approx. 2.70 g/cm³
Tensile Strength: Approx. 190–245 MPa (common T5/T6 tempers)
Corrosion Resistance: Good
Machinability: Moderate to good
Weldability: Good
Surface Finishes: Anodizing, bead blasting, brushing, polishing, powder coating, etc.
Typical Applications
Aluminum 6063 is widely used in electronic equipment, automation equipment, architectural structures, transportation, consumer electronics, and precision instruments.
Typical parts include equipment housings, heat sinks, aluminum profile frames, guide rails, decorative components, instrument structural parts, electronic product frames, and lightweight mechanical components.
Advantages
• Excellent surface quality and anodizing performance
• Good corrosion resistance and weldability
• Lightweight and suitable for extrusion into complex profiles
• Well suited for components with high appearance requirements
• Moderate overall cost and widely available material supply
Limitations
• Lower strength and hardness than 6061
• Not suitable for high-load structural components
• Not the best choice for components requiring high strength and high wear resistance
