ZA-12 Zinc-Aluminum Alloy
ZA-12 is a zinc-aluminum alloy containing approximately 11–12% aluminum. It provides a good balance of strength, hardness, wear resistance, and castability. Compared with ZA-8, it generally offers higher strength and load-bearing capability while maintaining good machinability.
Appearance & Properties
Color: Silver-gray to bright silver-gray
Density: Approx. 6.0 g/cm³
Tensile Strength: Approx. 400 MPa, depending on material condition and casting process
Corrosion Resistance: Good
Machinability: Good
Castability: Excellent
Wear Resistance: Good
Strength: High
Magnetism: Non-magnetic
Surface Finishes: Polishing, electroplating, painting, powder coating, passivation, etc.
Typical Applications
ZA-12 is widely used in automotive, industrial machinery, agricultural equipment, hardware, power transmission, and general mechanical applications.
Typical parts include gears, bearing housings, bushings, pulleys, brackets, mechanical housings, connectors, and various wear-resistant precision cast and CNC-machined components.
Advantages
• Higher strength and load-bearing capability than ZA-8
• Good wear resistance
• Good machinability
• Excellent casting characteristics
• Suitable for medium-to-high-load mechanical components
Limitations
• Relatively high density for lightweight applications
• Not suitable for prolonged high-temperature service
• Generally more expensive than common Zamak alloys
• Die-casting process options are less flexible than lower-aluminum Zamak alloys
