Hastelloy C-276
Hastelloy C-276 is a nickel-molybdenum-chromium corrosion-resistant alloy known for its exceptional resistance to aggressive chemical environments. It provides strong resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress-corrosion cracking, making it particularly suitable for critical components in chemical processing, oil & gas, and pollution-control equipment.
Appearance & Properties
Color: Silver-gray to bright silver-gray
Density: Approx. 8.89 g/cm³
Tensile Strength: Typically ≥690 MPa in the annealed condition
Corrosion Resistance: Excellent
Acid Resistance: Excellent
Machinability: Difficult
High-Temperature Performance: Good
Weldability: Good
Magnetism: Generally essentially non-magnetic
Surface Finishes: Blasting, polishing, grinding, pickling, passivation, etc.
Typical Applications
Hastelloy C-276 is widely used in chemical processing, oil and gas, marine engineering, energy, pharmaceutical processing, flue-gas desulfurization, and pollution-control equipment.
Typical parts include valve components, pump parts, flanges, nozzles, pipe fittings, reactor components, heat-exchanger parts, and highly corrosion-resistant precision CNC components.
Advantages
• Exceptional overall corrosion resistance
• Good resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion
• Good resistance to stress-corrosion cracking
• Suitable for many aggressive chemical media
• Ideal for severe chemical-processing environments
Limitations
• Very difficult to CNC machine
• Strong tendency to work harden
• High tool wear and relatively low machining efficiency
• High material and machining costs
