Inconel 718
Inconel 718 is a precipitation-hardenable nickel-chromium-based superalloy known for its high strength, elevated-temperature performance, fatigue resistance, and corrosion resistance. Compared with Inconel 625, 718 places greater emphasis on mechanical strength and high-temperature performance, making it widely used for aircraft engines, gas turbines, and heavily loaded industrial components.
Appearance & Properties
Color: Silver-gray to bright silver-gray
Density: Approx. 8.19 g/cm³
Tensile Strength: Typically above 1,200 MPa after age hardening, depending on specification and condition
Corrosion Resistance: Excellent
High-Temperature Performance: Excellent
Machinability: Difficult
Fatigue Resistance: Excellent
Strength: Very High
Magnetism: Generally essentially non-magnetic
Surface Finishes: Blasting, polishing, passivation, grinding, PVD coating, etc.
Typical Applications
Inconel 718 is widely used in aerospace, gas turbines, energy, oil and gas, high-performance automotive systems, and high-temperature industrial equipment.
Typical parts include aircraft engine components, turbine parts, compressor components, high-temperature fasteners, shafts, valve components, energy-equipment parts, and high-strength heat-resistant CNC components.
Advantages
• Very high mechanical strength
• Excellent elevated-temperature performance
• Good fatigue and creep resistance
• Good corrosion resistance
• Particularly suitable for high-temperature, high-load components
Limitations
• Very difficult to CNC machine
• Strong tendency to work harden
• High tool wear and demanding cutting parameters
• High material and machining costs
