C464 Naval Brass
C464, commonly known as Naval Brass, is a copper-zinc alloy containing tin. The addition of tin improves corrosion resistance and resistance to dezincification in seawater and humid environments, making it better suited than conventional brass for marine, offshore, and fluid-handling components.
Appearance & Properties
Color: Golden yellow to brass yellow
Density: Approx. 8.4 g/cm³
Tensile Strength: Approx. 380–550 MPa (depending on material condition)
Corrosion Resistance: Excellent, particularly in marine environments
Machinability: Moderate
Strength: Good
Wear Resistance: Good
Magnetism: Non-magnetic
Surface Finishes: Polishing, nickel plating, chrome plating, passivation, etc.
Typical Applications
C464 Naval Brass is widely used in marine equipment, offshore engineering, oil and gas, pumps and valves, heat exchangers, and industrial fluid systems.
Typical parts include marine fasteners, bolts, nuts, valve components, pump parts, bushings, pipe fittings, heat-exchanger components, and seawater-resistant CNC machined parts.
Advantages
• Good corrosion resistance in seawater
• Better resistance to dezincification than conventional brass
• Good strength and toughness
• Suitable for long-term humid and marine environments
• Ideal for marine and fluid-handling components
Limitations
• Lower CNC machinability than C360 free-cutting brass
• Generally more expensive than conventional brass
• Lower strength than high-strength steels and some copper alloys
• Actual seawater performance depends on factors such as flow rate, temperature, and water chemistry
