Grade 2 Titanium
Grade 2 is one of the most widely used commercially pure titanium grades, offering excellent corrosion resistance, a good strength-to-weight ratio, and excellent biocompatibility. Compared with Grade 5 titanium alloy, Grade 2 has lower strength but provides excellent ductility, formability, and corrosion resistance, making it particularly suitable for chemical, marine, medical, and aerospace applications.
Appearance & Properties
Color: Silver-gray to silvery white
Density: Approx. 4.51 g/cm³
Tensile Strength: Typically ≥345 MPa
Corrosion Resistance: Excellent
Machinability: Moderate to difficult
Strength-to-Weight Ratio: Good
Ductility: Good
Biocompatibility: Excellent
Magnetism: Essentially non-magnetic
Surface Finishes: Blasting, polishing, anodizing, passivation, PVD coating, etc.
Typical Applications
Grade 2 Titanium is widely used in aerospace, medical, chemical processing, marine engineering, energy, food-processing equipment, and high-end industrial systems.
Typical parts include valve components, pump parts, flanges, pipe fittings, medical-device components, heat-exchanger parts, fasteners, and corrosion-resistant precision CNC components.
Advantages
• Excellent corrosion resistance
• Approximately 57% of the weight of steel
• Good strength-to-weight ratio
• Excellent biocompatibility
• Particularly suitable for seawater and chemically corrosive environments
Limitations
• More difficult to CNC machine than aluminum and conventional steels
• Low thermal conductivity concentrates heat near the cutting tool
• Tendency toward tool adhesion and work hardening during machining
• Higher material and machining costs than conventional steel and aluminum
