Monel K-500
Monel K-500 is a precipitation-hardenable nickel-copper alloy that combines the excellent corrosion resistance of Monel 400 with significantly higher strength, hardness, and fatigue performance through additions of aluminum and titanium. It is particularly suitable for high-strength mechanical components operating under heavy loads in seawater and corrosive environments.
Appearance & Properties
Color: Silver-gray to silvery white
Density: Approx. 8.44 g/cm³
Tensile Strength: Typically around 1,000 MPa or higher after age hardening, depending on specification and condition
Corrosion Resistance: Excellent
Seawater Resistance: Excellent
Machinability: Difficult
Strength: High
Fatigue Resistance: Good
Magnetism: Generally essentially non-magnetic
Surface Finishes: Blasting, polishing, grinding, passivation, etc.
Typical Applications
Monel K-500 is widely used in marine, offshore, oil and gas, chemical processing, pumps and valves, and heavy-duty industrial equipment.
Typical parts include pump shafts, valve stems, impellers, fasteners, bolts, springs, drive shafts, marine equipment components, and high-strength corrosion-resistant CNC parts.
Advantages
• Excellent seawater corrosion resistance
• Significantly higher strength and hardness than Monel 400
• Good fatigue and wear resistance
• Suitable for high-load corrosive environments
• Particularly suitable for critical marine components
Limitations
• Very difficult to CNC machine
• Strong tendency to work harden
• High material and heat-treatment costs
• Stress-corrosion cracking should be considered in certain specific environments
