EN-GJS-500 Ductile Iron
EN-GJS-500 is a commonly used medium-to-high-strength ductile iron grade under European standards. It combines relatively high tensile strength with good toughness, wear resistance, and machinability. Compared with conventional gray cast iron, it provides better load-bearing capacity, impact resistance, and fatigue performance.
Appearance & Properties
Color: Dark gray to gray-black
Density: Approx. 7.0–7.2 g/cm³
Tensile Strength: Typically ≥500 MPa
Wear Resistance: Good
Machinability: Good
Toughness: Good
Fatigue Resistance: Good
Load-Bearing Capacity: Good
Magnetism: Magnetic
Surface Finishes: Painting, black oxide, phosphating, plating, grinding, etc.
Typical Applications
EN-GJS-500 Ductile Iron is widely used in automotive, construction machinery, industrial equipment, agricultural machinery, pumps and valves, and power transmission systems.
Typical parts include gears, wheel hubs, bearing housings, brackets, flanges, pump bodies, valve bodies, machine housings, and various high-load CNC-machined cast components.
Advantages
• Relatively high mechanical strength and load-bearing capacity
• Better toughness and impact resistance than gray cast iron
• Good wear and fatigue resistance
• Good machinability
• Suitable for complex, heavily loaded cast components
Limitations
• Relatively heavy and not ideal for lightweight designs
• Limited corrosion resistance and usually requires surface protection
• Poor weldability
• Lower strength than some high-strength alloy steels
