Stellite 6
Stellite 6 is a widely used cobalt-chromium wear-resistant alloy known for its excellent wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and high-temperature performance. It retains relatively high hardness under elevated temperatures and severe friction, making it particularly suitable for valves, sealing components, and critical wear parts.
Appearance & Properties
Color: Silver-gray to bright silver-gray
Density: Approx. 8.4 g/cm³
Hardness: Typically approx. 36–45 HRC, depending on product form and condition
Wear Resistance: Excellent
Corrosion Resistance: Excellent
High-Temperature Performance: Excellent
Machinability: Difficult
Anti-Galling Performance: Excellent
Magnetism: Generally somewhat magnetic
Surface Finishes: Grinding, polishing, blasting, precision grinding, etc.
Typical Applications
Stellite 6 is widely used in oil and gas, energy, aerospace, chemical processing, marine, and high-temperature industrial equipment.
Typical parts include valve seats, valve components, bushings, sealing rings, pump components, wear plates, nozzles, and high-temperature wear-resistant CNC parts.
Advantages
• Excellent wear and anti-galling performance
• Retains relatively high hardness at elevated temperatures
• Good corrosion and oxidation resistance
• Suitable for high-friction and high-temperature environments
• Long service life for critical wear components
Limitations
• Very difficult to CNC machine
• High cutting-tool wear and relatively low machining efficiency
• High material and machining costs
• Toughness and machinability are more limited than conventional steels
